2021 International Safety Week
Veolia has made risk prevention and the health and safety of its employees an essential priority, firmly rooted in its values. Far from being a simple stance, this commitment is reflected in concrete terms within the Group: strong and visible involvement of the Executive Committee and line management, non-negotiable safety standards, dedicated training programs, shared involvement of internal and external stakeholders that incorporate the CSR commitments and the indicators found in our Purpose.
For the past seven years, we have been celebrating International Health and Safety Week and this year as part of the week celebration we are focusing on Slips, Trips and Falls. Falls are the second leading cause of accidental or unintentional injury leading to fatality(WHO 2018).
We must make the prevention of occupational risks everyone's business by encouraging and training ourselves to better perceive unsafe situations. Taking time to consciously scan our environment is the best way to do this. To avoid accidents , we must share what we see with our colleagues and also remove anything that can cause slips, trips and falls. One cause of falling is walking, two systems protect you whilst walking, your sense of balance and visual focal point. The system to keep safe is the visual focal point. With the sense of balance alone you can not walk, you need to add the focal point to be able to walk safely without falling. We slip, trip and fall because we don't maintain our focal point of view.
